UIKA Bogor Postgraduate School Successfully Holds International Workshop on Waqf Management

Waqf is a form of social worship that not only has a spiritual dimension but also includes social and economic aspects. The traditional perception that limits waqf to property grants for places of worship and educational institutions needs to be broadened.

Waqf management plays an important role in determining the sustainability and development of waqf assets. The right management model will greatly affect the benefits that can be derived from waqf.

To improve the effectiveness of waqf institution management in Indonesia, it is necessary to improve the waqf institution management index. As explained in the book “Management of Waqf Institutions in Indonesia,” the results of the evaluation through focus group discussions indicate the need for the addition of four new variables, namely the strategic plan, HR code of ethics, remuneration system, and risk management audit. These variables are considered important to strengthen the governance and risk management of waqf institutions.

As a follow-up to the research findings, UIKA Bogor Postgraduate School initiated an international workshop titled “Waqf Management based on Waqf Core Principles (WCP)”. This workshop was filled by H. Hendri Tanjung, Ph.D., as the main speaker and Hj. Qurroh Ayuniyyah, SE, M.Ec., Ph.D., as the moderator.

This activity was opened with remarks given by Prof. Dr. H.E. Mujahidin, M.Si., as the Rector of UIKA Bogor, and Prof. Dr. KH. Didin Hafidhuddin, M.S., as the Director of the UIKA Bogor Postgraduate School.

This is also a gathering event between Prof. Dr. KH. Didin Hafidhuddin, M.S., as the first Secretary General of the World Zakat and Waqf Forum and the current Secretary General of the World Zakat and Waqf Forum.

Prof. Dr. KH Didin Hafidhuddin, M.S., Prof. Dr. H.E. Mujahidin, M.Si., and Datuk Dr. Mohd Ghazali, Md. Noor, concurred in stating the urgency of zakat and waqf in the development of the country as well as the benefits for the community, bringing independence and the economic pillars of the ummah.

H. Hendri Tanjung, Ph.D., in his presentation conveyed several important parts of the WCP, namely legal foundations, waqf supervision, good waqf governance, risk management, and sharia governance, each of which was explained in detail.

The activity took place from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB and took place in the Multipurpose Room Hall of the UIKA Bogor Postgraduate School.

With this activity, hopefully making zakat and waqf can continue to be the foundation of sustainable change. Through the strategic steps compiled in the resolution, we can build a more inclusive and just world, with waqf as the main driver.
